Edwin Jagger is Europe's foremost manufacturer of luxury handmade shaving equipment. Edwin Jagger products are crafted and hand assembled in Sheffield England, a city known for its rich industrial history. The Edwin Jagger DE89 Chrome Lined DE Safety Razor (Long) is a high-quality closed comb double edge safety razor, featuring a long handle.
This double edge safety razor is fitted with the classic Edwin Jagger DE Head, which has been popular amongst the wet shaving community for many years. The closed comb head is expertly engineered and finished with a high-quality chrome plate. It has an excellent reputation for the expert level of shaving it achieves.
The classic Edwin Jagger closed comb razor head is praised for being an excellent choice for those trying traditional shaving for the first time, whilst remaining a firm favourite of those who are more experienced shavers.
When used with any standard DE razor blade and quality shaving cream or soap, this razor will produce a close and accurate shave often compared to that of a straight razor.
The handle is finished with an attractive chrome plating featuring a lined pattern, giving it an aesthetically pleasing appearance and enhanced wet grip.
The handle length of the razor is approximately 93mm, with the overall length of the razor measuring approximately 101mm. The longer handle length allows for enhanced control when the razor is used to shave harder to reach areas.
This product includes one free Feather Hi-Stainless DE Safety Razor Blade to get you started. Feather Blades are the preferred pairing recommended by Edwin Jagger as the sharpness of the blade paired with the head offers a comfortable, clean shave.
The blades can be recycled after use, making this product a popular choice for those looking for a waste free method of shaving.
All Edwin Jagger products are finished off with a thorough quality check and packed securely in attractive Edwin Jagger packaging, allowing for safe and secure delivery.
Please remember to register your genuine razor with Edwin Jagger to benefit from years of world renowned customer support and service at Register.

- Smoothest Shave!
-
Absolutely love this razor. As a woman, I was unsure about committing to a safety razor as I'd heard mixed reviews. But this gives the smoothest shave I've ever had and is really easy to use. It would be nice if handle was a little more textured for even better grip, but overall I love it!

- Good weight for a razor. The longer length handle is excellent for big wide fingers. Good quality chrome and the lined handle gives enough grip when wet. Good quality product from a British company.

- I'm a Convert
-
Bought my DE89 after getting fed-up with the huge cost of cartridge razors and their nasty, lightweight handles. I've been shaving for about 50 years, so take it from me - I've tried everything. Everything except a traditional double-edge razor, that is. After a bit of research, I was pleased to see that one of the top-rated companies, Edwin Jagger, was a British company. My DE89 arrived quickly in the post. Having used it for two weeks, I can say I'm a convert. I've embraced the whole traditional shaving thing, by adopting pre-shave cream, soap and shaving brush. It may take a few minutes more in the morning, but it turns shaving from a chore into an event!

- Excellent razor, fine quality and well-priced.
-
I bought this to replace a 'butterfly-opening' razor which, although reasonable quality, had begun to open during shaving which resulted in a loose blade and the inevitable cuts . The quality of the EJ razor is noticeably better, fine chrome-plating, weight is (for me) just right and of course it's made in Sheffield (almost local for me!), which is a welcome bonus.

- I'd forgotten that safety razors existed. Searched for ethical razors and came across Edwin Jagger. Sheffield made, packaging was all recyclable, no plastic. Excellent stuff. Never realised shaving could be fun.

Seems really well made. Was a little bit wary at first of using a safety razor, but it's probably actually easier to use than disposable or cartridge razors!

Very nice DE, smoothly pieces together, I find weighty enough especially when using long handle which helps with reach for leg shaving, the lined handle provides enough grip but would perhaps go for a more patterned handle if you're scared about it slipping when wet.

Fantastic razor, very well made with a nice balance and weighty feel, whilst giving a really smooth shave. I hadn’t considered getting a longer handle until I saw that was an option and I’m really satisfied with this model. This is an update. I bought my DE89L approx a year ago I love my razor but as time went on I had a desire to try something else. Having done so it just made me realise what a good razor the DE 89 is. Purchased this razor as wanting to replace disposables, just not sure why I didn't do it sooner. Nervous to use at first but having tried a couple of times, now perfectly happy using a safety razor. Lovely design, nice to handle, easy to clean and probably more hygienic than disposables. UK made too, so extra brownie points. Now need to convince my teenage daughter away from the masses!

- A Fantastic Razor, just needs to be nicer to novices
-
An excellent razor, nice weight and length of handle. It is a great way to get a closer shave that's more environmentally friendly. The only improvement I would recommend is with the instructions. The base plate was on the wrong way out when I started and I didn't realize that was why I was unable to shave until some time later.

I have a Merkur 34 C HD and felt the handle a little short after reading about this I gave it a go. Not only is it beautifully made it shaves really well and I prefer the result to the Merkur. I find I don't nick myself so much too. I used it with an Astra blade and a Serby Extra. Both work well.

I have wet-shaved for years, being a slave to the plastic disposable and replaceable heads razors for more years than I care to remember. I had begun to look into the safety razors because of the plastic waste and linked environmental issues and also because of the eye watering prices of the disposable razors in their ever expanding multiple-blade wars. I chose this razor after much reading around and I am so pleased that I did. After the first couple of shaves I haven't nicked/bled once . The first two shaves I bled a little, but my skin has calmed down completely; I suffer with sensitive skin around my neck but not anymore!. This razor coupled with feather blades has been superb. The razor's balance is great and it is a treat to shave with. I will certainly not be changing in a rush. I cannot recommend this highly enough, in fact I have purchased my Dad one for Christmas! Happy shaving!

-
I am SO pleased I switched from ladies plastic razors. This razor brilliant for legs and underarms. I’ve had no problems at all over last 3 weeks using this razor and only 1 really tiny cut on my knee when I was not concentrating. Make sure you use a shaving cream/soap. Take your time at first and don’t apply pressure – use the weight of the razor. Razor comes with just 1 feather blade. It’s a shame there were some packing peanuts used in the packaging.
*Reply from EJ: Thanks for your great review! Please note - the packing peanuts we use are made from 100% biodegradable material and can be composted or dissolved in water.Quality Price Value
- Highly recommended - great product
-
Fastastic product. We have recently decided to make positive changes and get rid of as much plastic from our home as possible. The shaving razor has been one of the most successful swaps we have made. I was initially worried about cutting myself to shreds, but the razor is great quality and has been super easy to use. The injuries I was concerned about have not happened, barring one little nick on the first use! Really happy with the results, a fantastically close and smooth shave with absolutely no irritation to the skin. Would highly recommend this razor.

I read in The Times about DE razors being environmentally friendly and saving money. It recommend EJ, so I ended up getting this razor.
So glad to have made the switch, I now look forward to shaving! It is a different technique and takes a bit longer but it’s worth it.
Blades make a huge difference BTW, so try different blades to find the one that suit you.
Now gone and brought a shaving set and am now the proud owner of two EJ razors, brush and stand,I never thought shaving could be so obsessive:-)Quality Price Value

Bought this DE razor after much thought. Have used a EJ bush for some time with AN Other soap and multi blade online subscription razors. First shave I took much caution but was a revelation. Yes a few nicks but that would happen with the multi blades. Glad I bought the long handle as I think it may give more control. Technique is the key I have bought more Feather blades and an Alum block which helps with nicks and razor burn.
Would recommend this razor.Quality Price Value

-
Recently switched to DE shaving, teamed with Feather Blades. Got a few nicks on first couple of shaves, but having refined my technique and using coconut oil as a pre-shave, I am now getting shaves that are on a totally different level to my old Fusion and Mach 3 cartridge efforts. I'm never going back. Using EJ Aloe Vera Shaving soap, lovely stuff.

I wish I had bought this razor years ago! It would have saved me so much money & also saved so much plastic waste from the disposables I have bought over the years. The quality & craftmanship is second to none & it is a lot easier to adjust from the regular disposables to this than I thought it would be. You simply have to take your time & be precise with your shave, which is not a problem at all. If the job is worth doing, it's worth doing right - and this razor will certainly do that!

I decided to venture into DE razors after having used a cartridge razor for years. I researched them all and decided to try this one as a good entry level razor. I am very impressed, especially for the price. Great feel and balance. Quality is great, and I had no trouble getting used to the razor as a beginner. No nicks or cuts. The longer handle is nice if you are coming from a cartridge razor. Shipping and packaging were great too. Highly recommended.

- Buy British!
-
After not shaving for a while I thought it was about time to smarten up for my new office job. I had used a double edged safety razor in the past but that one was quite cheap.
When I received my new razor I was quite excited, the packaging was very modern with a classic gentlemanly look to it. Teasing the high engineering of the razor through the clear packaging. The feel of the razor in my hands was so nice and balanced. It feels a lot more expensive than the price suggests. The shave was such a relaxing experience, I took my time but it was worth it due to the closeness of the shave given.
I am very happy with my purchase and even more so with the fact that this is a British company. I would be happy to purchase further products from Edwin Jagger again in the future.Quality Price Value

I decided to ditch my plastic razors and replace them with a long lasting safety razor. I've read so many articles, reviews... Spent so much time trying to make my mind on this. Watched a lot of videos on Youtube about different brands. When I saw Edwin Jagger and heard that they are from Sheffield, Steel City I knew I didn't need to think again. The product arrived in really good packaging with a sample of shaving cream and one feather razor blade. The finish on this razor is so elegant. I was very afraid of shaving with a safety razor, thought I would cut myself but it is actually very easy to use. You don't have to change much and after first use I got so used to it. I got the long handle one as it was recommended for shaving the body. Very very pleased with my purchase and I definitely recommend it.

-
I spent a while trying to decide which DE razor to select. I wanted something easy to use and one that would give me as good, if not better, results that the plastic cartridge razors I had been using. I am very happy with the length of this handle and find the ridges easy to use (not slippery). My first few shaves were not very successful - nicks and cuts and redness... I was rather disappointed. I then found Proraso Anti Irritation Pre Shave Cream - I wasn't very hopeful but it has made all the difference. I now have a great razor which works very well on my skin. I am so glad I have ditched the plastic and have a DE razor.

- BRILLIANT
-
Thrilled with this product. I opted for the longer handle as wanted a plain metal handle rather than the coloured ones specifically designed for us girlies!
I was surprised at how easy I found it to use from the outset. I use it in the shower with normal shower gel which gives a good lather but I do turn the water off while I do my legs to maintain the lather.
Don't be fooled though - I haven't been completely unscathed! But that's the blades rather than the razor. My advice would be to take your time, don't shave in a hurry. The areas that catch me out are my bony ankles and knobbly knees ha ha.
When looking into getting a safey razor rather than disposable I read that women had problem she with rusting - that's an easy one to avoid - don't leave it in your shower cubicle!
From a value-for-money aspect, when you consider the cost of a new plastic razor and the blades for it, this will pay for itself in no time.
AND less environmental plastic ste which was my main reason for purchaseQuality Price Value
- My 1st DE Safety Razor, Great for beginners like me!!!!!
-
Great workmanship, nice chrome coating and fits well no jerk at all. As a 1st time owner and user of DE razor this feels great. The shave along the grain was surprisingly easy no effort at all. As for the against the grain it was a bit scary for me (1st time jitters need more practice). I got some razor burns same with cartridge razor but less pass than cartridge razor. Didn't have brush and lather( should have bought the shaving brush) used canned shaving gel.It was a good 1st shave. Excited for my next shave and will be selecting my shaving brush after this feedback. ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
By the way what's the after shave care for the razor? Do I still need to break apart and dry seperately. Or just rince and hung including the blade? ThanksQuality Price Value

This is my first safety razor and I’m completely converted. Got the long handle in order to make shaving legs easier, it feels less harsh on the skin than disposable, gives a close shave and less cuts than I’m used to. - I would thoroughly recommend my long handle chrome lined
-
After a long period of shaving using both an electric razor and disposables with their ever-increasing blade-count and prices, but without any corresponding improvement in shave quality, I decided to buy a DE razor; in particular, the Edwin Jagger Long-handled Lined version.
After reading through a wide range of reviews, I was very pleased to find that I could buy one made in the UK by a British company!. The quality is excellent, it has really good reviews, and its price makes it the perfect choice. I decided on the long-handled version as its length most closely matched that of the disposables I had been using. In addition, the lined handle would provide a somewhat better grip if my hands were somewhat wet; plus, I prefer its look. I had to wait for it to be back in stock before I could order, a sign of its popularity!. Just a short wait and well worth it. It was ordered on a Monday, and delivered the very next day (Royal Mail), excellent service.
Since receiving my razor, I have been gradually going through a selection of blades to see which one I prefer. These include Wilkinson Sword (Germany), Gillette 7 o’clock Super Stainless (Russia, green pack), Personna Platinum (USA), Posilver Super Iridium (Russia), and Astra Superior Platinum (Russia). I am using each blade for just a few shaves, before moving on to the next one. I am leaving the Feather blades that came with the razor until last!
Each one of the blades in my Edwin Jagger gives an excellent shave, far better than any disposable that I have used in the past. To start with, I managed to get a couple of small nicks, but no more than I would get anyway with a disposable which would quickly clog up and get uncomfortable to use. If I was blind testing the blades, I would find it difficult at the moment to tell the difference between them. As I improve my technique, the number of nicks has very quickly dropped. For the present I am mostly just shaving with the grain, no attempt yet against the grain! Even so, the closeness of my shave using DE razor is much better than any disposable I have ever used in the past.
I am very pleased that I have started using a DE razor, and I would thoroughly recommend my long handle chrome lined Edwin Jagger to anyone looking to make a similar purchase.Quality Price Value
- Beautiful Razor
-
A beautiful razor - nice weight and seems to give a nice close shave (although I'm still getting used to it!). Glad I waited for the long handled version to be back in stock - I think for girls that makes a difference. I preferred this one to the candy coloured "girls" razors that they have available, as this one is a bit more classic.
Nice that you get blades and a free sample of shaving cream too.
Not a fan of the foam peanut packaging though, as this isn't normally recyclable. Just need to replace with non-plastic, recyclable packging and it would be perfect :)
NOTE FROM EJ - Thanks for your review Sarah. Just to let you know, as part of our commitment to the environment, we use Eco Flo packaging material to safely pack our products for delivery. Eco Flo is a fully compostable loosefill packaging material manufactured using annually renewable material by an efficient, single step extrusion process. - Nicely balanced
-
Nicely balanced and reassuringly heavy razor, just switched over from using plastic disposable ones, and am enjoying the experience so far. Used one feather razor blade in just over a week, and so far it seems that shaving with a traditional razor and blades is much more cost effective than the likes of 3 or 4 bladed Plastic razors , eg Gillette fusion etc.

Despite a lifetime of happily ignoring gender stereotyping of products, and happily using a mans cartridge razor, it suddenly dawned on me that there was no reason I shouldn't use a DE razor. Hence the purchase. Delighted with it, haven't quite mastered under the arms, but my legs are the smoothest they've been. Excellent razor handle.

Had bought another DE Razor from amazon with great reviews and derby blades for my first sortie into DE shaving. I did lots of research and used a pre shave and soap from Proraso and went to it. Well it was like a blood letting session and I knew it was part technique and part aggression of the razor. Second time two days later was better but not great. I was going to try cassettes instead until I saw the DE 89LBL reviewed by various shavers on you tube. So I ordered one with some trepidation.
I have now used the razor for two weeks and wow what a difference. It glides over my face with minimal nicks and no razor burn and has convinced me my move to the Edwin Jagger was justified. I will try other blades as my technique improves but the razor is a keeper.Quality Price Value

Excellent razor at a good price. I too have had minor chrome issues twice. Both times Jagger responded immediately and sent replacement parts as well as gifting some blades and shaving cream.

This razor is an excellent, slightly aggressive razor. I bought it and the heavy Merkur 43c at the same time. I ended up liking the Edwin Jagger much better and use it as my main razor. I have had some issues with pot metal rot under the chrome but Edwin Jagger's customer service has sent me new pieces twice along with extra shaving samples of products. The customer service is excellent and I would not hesitate to buy another razor from Edwin Jaggers in the future.

Due to having a baby face, with an surprisingly thick goatee, wet shaving has always been a secondary thought, but having read reviews of the benefits of DE Razors & the great reviews I bought one of these! And now the goatees gone and I am full High School Freshman again, all in 2 easy sweeps!

Best razor I've ever used by a long shot. Tried many others but came back to this simple elegant and comfortable design. The blade is curved just the right amount and I get very close shaves. I bought two this time just in case.

I personally think that the long EJ razors represent the best value in the entire EJ line. They have very nice balance and, for people with larger hands, the extra handle length is more comfortable.

This is the second Edwin Jagger I buy since my first one broke when it fell in the sink. I'm very happy with the design, and the quality I assume is good, as usual. I can definitely recommend this razor to anyone, period. It doesn't matter if you are experienced or just starting out - It's easy to use, leaves a good result and and has a tasteful design. It also comes with a couple of blades, which always is a useful and welcomed. Good stuff!

Was about to buy another load of 5 blade safety blades when I came across a site extolling the virtues of a de safety razor. After some research settled on the Edwin Jagger Long chrome lined together with feather blades. Have to say am very pleased with the results, I change blades weekly and my skin already feels the benefits, would recommend you give it a try, you will save money in the long run, get a better shave - and look so much cooler!
