The threaded section had broken off but I was able to remove the stub from the handle and was going to order a new head which I had seen on the website. I was very pleased to see that I could get just the top plate. Very quick delivery and a sensible price. I have taken note of the warning not to over-tighten the head in future although in fairness this has lasted many years. I have always had excellent service from Edwin Jagger and the English Shaving Co.
